Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness for IRCC-funded Organizations

The IRCC Settlement and Integration Service Delivery Committee has identified building capacity in the area of privacy and data security to be a national priority. The objective is to ensure recipient organizations are up-to-date on obligations towards their respective provincial privacy laws by which they are governed and best practices for compliance with industry standards. As the safeguarding of client information is of utmost importance to the Government of Canada, SAISIA has been requested by IRCC to deliver mandatory training for all IRCC-funded organizations.

Knowing how to ensure client privacy and that the security of the information is maintained is crucial for mitigating risks for settlement agencies, both ethically and legally.

With many staff working in a hybrid manner, special attention must be paid to cybersecurity and data privacy principles when working remotely and in person. The Settlement sector is not immune to potential data breaches, where sensitive information may be stolen. The consequences of these data breaches can significantly impact clients’ lives in Canada, including potential identity theft.

To ensure Saskatchewan’s Settlement Sector is aware of these issues, SAISIA is organizing a 90 minute webinar to address these issues. The webinars listed below cover the same information. They are being offered in English and in French.

Learning objectives:

  • Introduction to Cybersecurity Principles: Best practices for secure online behaviour. Recognizing and mitigating common cyber threats.
  • Training on Data in the Sector: Understanding the types of data handled in the settlement and integration sector. Techniques for securing sensitive information. Highlighting the consequences of data breaches.
  • Legal Frameworks for Digital Security and Privacy in Saskatchewan: Overview of the legal landscape, presentation of differences in provincial privacy laws, and the legal responsibilities of organizations and individuals.
  • Organizational and Institutional Policies: How to develop and implement data security policies. Integrating data security into existing organizational frameworks and establishing protocols for incident response and reporting.
