In honor of PRIDE Month, SAISIA hosted a presentation by Saskatchewan Intercultural Association that covers a wide range of topics related to the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and delved into the histories in Canada and highlighted the crucial role of being an ally.
Presenters’ Bio:
Kandice Parker
BSc, BA, MA, PhD
Kandice Parker is a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Training Coordinator for Saskatchewan Intercultural Association and is passionate about working to address issues of prejudice, discrimination, sexuality, and gender. Kandice recently completed her doctoral thesis work in which she developed solutions towards gender equality in the workplace. As a graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan, Kandice worked to promote inclusive leadership and address bias in academic publishing. Before delving into psychology, inclusivity, and justice work, Kandice was a fisheries biologist and a yoga instructor, and has travelled extensively and lived overseas. Kandice now lives in her hometown, Saskatoon, with her partner and two children.
Lara Paul
B.A., B. Ed., M. Ed.
Lara is a small-town Saskatchewanite with Indigenous-Scottish and Polish-Norwegian heritage. As the Intercultural Education Coordinator with Saskatchewan Intercultural Association as well as a sessional instructor with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Education, she has ample time to engage in her passions: teaching, learning, and connecting with others. With a professional background in curriculum development, she engages in various projects related to curriculum consultation & development, intercultural consultation, and provides educational presentations on a local and national level. She organizes projects to bring intercultural, anti-racist, and equity focused discussion to the forefront of the community, and deeply enjoys being an active participant in community initiatives and activities that bring people together.
