Gelrene Sanfuego originally came from the Pearl of the Orient Seas, Philippines. Gelrene, along with her whole family migrated here in Saskatchewan when she was 16 years old, where she completed both her high school diploma and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

While she was in University, Gelrene was also actively volunteering to one of the broadcasting companies in the Philippines as a news correspondent that helped her honed her writing and oral communication skills. At church, she is part of Social Committee that helps newcomers’ church member to navigate the way of life here in Canada, which sparked her interest in working at Immigration and Settlement sector. Before joining SAISIA in September 2022, Gelrene worked as an employment counsellor at Saskatoon Open Door Society where she mainly focused on youth employment, since then, her passion to be part of Immigration and Settlement sector intensified.

Gelrene is passionate in contributing creative ideas and coordinating collaborative projects that will help immigrants like her here in Canada break through the barriers they are facing and dismantle the wonderful opportunities that awaits them.

Aside from work, Gelrene enjoys writing her own music, reading books, and playing recreational badminton with her friends.
