Indigenization of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment – Using Relationship to Change Practice

This session will provide guidance for educators looking to embed Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing in their curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The session will share strategies to approach instruction and assessment from an Indigenous perspective to support all learners.
Participants will:
•  Explore instruction from an Indigenous lens
•  Grow understanding of culturally appropriate assessment
•  Recognize impact of relationship on a strength-based 
        approach to Indigenous education

Darryl Isbister

Indigenous Education Initiatives Lead

Darryl Isbister is a Métis man whose family comes from the Kinistino area of this land called Saskatchewan. Darryl spent 25 years with Saskatoon Public Schools as a secondary social science teacher, learning leader, education consultant and Coordinator for First Nation, Inuit, and Métis Education. In August 2022, Darryl joined the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Saskatchewan as Lead for Indigenous Education Initiatives. His priority is to provide support for faculty and staff prioritizing advancement of (re)conciliation through decolonization and Indigenous-informed teaching practices. Darryl leads Indigenization of education through authentic inclusion of First Nation, Inuit, and Métis ways of knowing and doing in curriculum.
