The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is reporting that in 2015 there are close to 60 million displaced persons worldwide compared to 51.2 million a year ago and 37.5 million a decade ago. This presents an urgent need for 1.15 million resettlement spaces in 2016. This is the largest refugee crisis facing the world since World War II. Globally, one in every 122 humans is now either a refugee, internally displaced, or seeking asylum. If this were the population of a country, it would be the world's 24th largest! About 42% resided in countries where the GDP per capita was below USD 5,000.
